Overall, the students are adapting to 8th grade pretty wellin my class we have been completing “doodle” sheets for “building a better scientist” and organizing our speckled books. It is imperative that the students have a speckled book AND NOT A BINDER to have the materials needed for my class. The speckled book is checked sporaticly for a grade. We will be having our first test on Thursday, August 29. It will cover all the notes taken. Students have been told they could/should have been studying the material since DAY 1 of notetaking. Please encourage your child to bring their speckled book home EVERY night and study.
ASSIGNMENTS WEEK OF 9/9/19 – Students have been working on FOSSILS, lots of research, a “doodle” sheet; videos, etc. The “LUCY” doodle sheet is in the speckled book and hopefully they have been studying this information for upcoming test on Tuesday, 9/17! ALSO, PIZZA PIG OUT is on Tuesday. Any students parents who purchase Johnny’s that evening (from 5-8), eat in or drive thru, their child will receive 5 points on their FOSSIL test. I MUST SEE RECEIPT from that night. Grades are posted in WEBPAMS. Keep checking them out. PLEASE encourage your child to STUDY. Thanks.
ASSIGNMENTS WEEK OF 9/23/19 – WE ARE COMPLETING OUR LESSONS ON GEOLOGIC TIME AND EMBRYOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT THIS WEEK. THERE WILL BE AN EXAM ON WEDNESDAY, 9/25/19. PLEASE CHECK WEBPAM FOR YOUR CHILD’S GRADES! THE LAST TEST ON FOSSILS WAS NOT VERY SUCCESSFUL FOR SEVERAL STUDENTS. I HAVE REMINDED THE STUDENTS THAT STUDY SKILLS ARE IMPERATIVE IN MY CLASS. THEY COMPLETED THEIR NOTES ON EMBRYOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT THIS PAST FRIDAY, 9/20 AND SHOULD BE STUDYING NIGHTLY FOR WEDNESDAY’S TEST. THERE IS NO SCHOOL MONDAY, 9/30/19 FOR STUDENTS.
UPDATE: STUDENTS WILL BE WORKING ON A GEOLOGICAL TIMELINE DURING CLASS PERIODS ON THURSDAY, FRIDAY AND THE ASSIGNMENT IS DUE TUESDAY. THERE IS NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS ON MONDAY!

Assignments week of 10/7/19-students will be summarizing a packet on natural selection, discussion of per say packet in class, test from material on Wednesday 10/0/19. FALL BREAK!!!!! 10/14 AND 10/15
ASSIGNMENTS WEEK OF 10/21 – FRIDAY, 10/18 STUDENTS WERE TESTED ON DARWIN’S BIOLOGICAL EVOLUTION THEORY. MOST OF THE CLASSES HAVE STARTED TAKING NOTES ON COLLIDING CONTINENTS AND UPON COMPLETION THE STUDENTS WILL ASSEMBLE A “PANGEA”. ONCE WE FINISH THE NOTES, STUDENTS SHOULD BEGIN STUDYING FOR THEIR TEST! TEST DATE WILL BE ANN OUNCED LATER, CHECK FOR UPDATES! THE PANGEA PROJECT WILL BE COMPLETED IN CLASS.
ASSIGNMENTS WEEK OF 10/28 – monday the students will complete their Pangea puzzle in class and turn in for a grade. Tuesday – test on colliding continents, they completed this sheet early LAST week and were suppose to be studying and rewatching the video. Wednesday their will be an in class assignment starting our new lesson of Layers of the Earth. Thursday we will be attending the WMHS homecoming assembly. Friday is completion of assignment from Wednesday.
ASSIGNMENTS WEEK OF 11-4 This week we will begin “Layers of the Earth”. There will be notes on “Journey to the Center of the Earth”. Students will also receive a handout on the Earth’s Layers. All this material will be discussed and a test will follow next week, probably on the Wednesday, 11/13. Monday, Nov 11 there is no school – VETERANS DAY. If a student misses a day, they will need to watch the video on their own before the test.
ASSIGNMENTS WEEK OF 11/11- NO SCHOOL MONDAY! TUESDAY WE WILL REVIEW FOR WEDNESDAY’S(11/13) TEST. THE TEST WILL COVER SUBLIMATION, NOTES ON “JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH” AND EARTH’S LAYERS. STUDENTS COMPLETED ALL THIS MATERIAL 11/8 AND WERE ADVISDED TO TAKE THEIR SPECKLED BOOK HOME AND STUDY FOR THE 3 DAYS WE ARE OFF. THURSDAY WE WILL BEGIN OUR STUDY OF ROCKS.
ASSIGNMENTS WEEK OF 11/18 – RETAKE TESTS (IF NEEDED) WILL BE GIVEN ON MONDAY, STUDENTS HAVE BEEN WORKING ON 2 ROCK SHEETS IN CLASS AND THERE WILL BE AN EXAM FROM THESE ON WEDNESDAY, 11/20. Thursday and Friday STUDENTS WILL BEGIN GATHERING INFORMATION ON EARTHQUAKES AND VOLCANOES. HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU ALL AND ENJOY OUR WEEK OFF!
ASSIGNMENTS WEEK OF 12/2/19 – WELL THE HOLIDAY SEASON IS HERE!!!! HOPE YOU ALL HAD A GREAT THANKSGIVING BREAK. WE WILL CONTINUE WITH EARTHQUAKES AND VOLCANOES UPON OUR RETURN. STUDENTS HAVE BEEN WORKING ON A PACKET USING THE TEXTBOOK TO ANSWER THE QUESTIONS. STUDENTS WILL WATCH VIDEOS ON EQ/VOL THIS WEEK AND TAKE SHORT QUIZES ON THEM. THEN THERE WILL BE AN EXAM AFTER DISCUSSION OF ANSWERS TO PACKET.
ASSIGNMENT WEEK OF 12/16/19: WE BEGAN DISCUSSING NATURAL AND SYNTHETIC PRODUCTS ON 12/11 REFERENCING “SYNTHETIC BLOOD” AND THE STUDENTS WERE GIVEN A HANDOUT COMPARING THE COMPONENTS OF NATURAL/SYNTHETIC BLOOD AS AN EXAMPLE . MONDAY WE WILL DISCUSS THESE HANDOUTS AND THEN MOVE ON TO SELECTING A TOPIC FOR RESEARCH AND THEN USING THAT INFORMATION TO CREATE AN ADVERTISEMENT POSTER. ASSIGNMENT WILL BE WORKED ON IN CLASS.STUDENTS MAY NEED TO PURCHASE A POSTER BOARD AND ONE OR TWO ITEMS TO PORTRAY THEIR NATURAL VS. SYNTHETIC PRODUCT ON THEIR POSTER. WE WILL NOT BE RUSHING THROUGH THIS ASSIGNMENT, SO IF IT CARRIES OVER TO 2020, THAT WILL BE OKAY. OUR 2ND 9 WEEKS ENDS JANUARY 7TH, SO THE MAJORITY OF GRADES ARE POSTED. WE ARE ALL LOOKING FORWARD TO THE CHRISTMAS BREAK AND HOPE ALL OF YOU HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND SAFE AND SUCCESSFUL NEW YEAR
WELCOME 2020! THIS WEEK THE STUDENTS WILL BE COMPLETING THEIR POSTER SHOWING COMPARISON OF A NATURAL VS SYNTHETIC PRODUCT. THEY WILL WORK ON THIS WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY AND HAVE COMPLETION ON FRIDAY BY THE END OF THE CLASS PERIOD. STUDENTS WILL DECIDE AMONGST THEIR GROUP WHO WILL DO WHAT—PRINT, BY POSTER, ETC. THEY WERE AWARE OF THIS PROJECT BEFORE CHRISTMAS BREAK AND HAD ALREADY TALKED AND RESEARCHED SOME THINGS. WE ARE NOW IN THE 3RD NINE WEEKS GRADING PERIOD.
