Summer Reading Assignment

Each incoming eighth grader of Good Hope Middle School who is scheduled to take advanced ELA for the 2024-2025 school year must read a fictional book of your choice over the summer. The book must be a minimum of 250 pages and grade-appropriate. No elementary level books will be accepted. Your book must be parent-approved which means it will also be school-appropriate.

Written Assignment

Write a multi-paragraph essay in which you explain two conflicts in the book. These may be internal or external conflicts. Explain each type of conflict and the character or characters involved. You should cite textual evidence as support when explaining each conflict. Choose one of the conflicts to compare and contrast to a conflict in another book that you have read or to a conflict that you have experienced in your own life. This written essay will be due Monday, August 19, 2024. You will also discuss these conflicts with your teacher.
